A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by the Bharat Subcontinent Agri Foundation (BSAF) and the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) to advance the South Asian and UAE global agricultural commodities sector. According to a press release, the MoU calls for DMCC and FSAF to collaborate on food- and agri-tech projects and improve knowledge transfer through conferences and exhibitions.
Statements From The Summit
During the inaugural South Asia Agri Summit in Kathmandu, Nepal, the agreement was signed by Sudhakar Tomar, Chairman of BSAF, and Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DMCC. Ahmed Bin Sulayem of DMCC mentioned, “DMCC has a longstanding and proud track record of conducting business with South Asia. Today, we are home to over 4,250 members from the region covering agro and many other sectors.” He also added that “The timing of the MOU with BSAF is strategically very important as trade between the UAE and South Asia in recent years has soared and will only grow further with the signing of new CEPA agreements and food trade corridors, including the recent UAE-India CEPA.”
Purpose Of The MOU
With a focus on the growth of the global agricultural commodities sector, the MOU was signed to further solidify the agri-trade ties between the UAE, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan.
Sudhakar Tomar, Chairman at BSAF mentioned, “We are delighted to partner up with DMCC to build the next chapter of agri-food trade between South Asia and the UAE. This vibrant new partnership will provide crucial knowledge sharing in the wider efforts to grow South Asia’s connectivity and enhance food security at the regional levels as well as the global levels.”. DMCC has a long history of promoting agri-business between South Asia and the UAE. Agri-goods, which include tea, coffee, soy, sugar, spices, and many other agri-commodities, play an increasingly strategic role in DMCC’s mix of commodities for the awareness of issues as global food security issues grow.
