The import volume of spices to Dubai during the period January-June 2020 was around 1.6 million tons, which is a growth of 22 per cent when compared to the previous year (1.3 million tons). The import value stood at $2.8 billion, which is an increase of 12 per cent over the same period last year ($2.5 billion).

In terms of types of spices, cardamom remained the top most imported spice with a share of 35 per cent in value terms and 31 per cent in volume terms followed by pepper and coriander.

Spices export from India has been growing every year. The country exported about US$4.3 billion worth of spices in 2019. The export of spices from India is expected to grow at a CAGR of 9% during 2019-2025.

According to the data available with the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, the total spices exports from India during the fiscal year 2018-19 was US$4.3 billion, an increase of 10% over the previous year. Spices exports from India have been growing steadily at an annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8% over the last five years (2013 – 18).
