Gulfood Expo 2022 Dubai – Embracing Zero Waste Campaign
This year, the Gulfood Expo Dubai 2022 is initiating a new movement called Gulfood Zero Waste, to inspire people in the business of food as well as food lovers to rethink the way they consume edibles. The Gulfood Zero Waste campaign has been initiated in partnership with restaurants and hotels with the aim of popularizing the zero waste initiative globally.
According to the latest data from the UN-FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations), as much as one-third of the world’s food is wasted which amounts to around 1.3 billion tonnes annually costing around USD 1 trillion. This leads to loss of nutrients in food, wastage of resources invested in food production, and detrimental impact on the environment.
Gulfood 2022 will start a discussion on this very important topic. Chefs attending the event will be conducting workshops and masterclasses focusing on sustainable practices using local produce.
The trade fair is partnering with the Waste Lab, which operates with the objective to repurpose food with societal and economic benefits. The trade show will be hosting a zero-waste mega impact campaign with the aim of collecting 1000 kg of food wastage to be transformed into 400 kg of compost. Leading restaurants with zero waste will be awarded at the end of the campaign.
The idea is to initiate trends that will transform the industry for the good. This event is expected to start dialogue and movement among policymakers and communities pertaining to this sensitive topic. The objective is to end the discrepancies between food wastage and hunger while also addressing climate change. The trade show is a prestigious platform for such an initiative as it will be attended by 4,000 exhibiting companies, a host of high-caliber speakers from 120 countries, more than 100 award-winning chefs, including Michelin Star chefs, business leaders, and government policymakers.

This is a brand new add-on to this year’s Gulfood. Price-winning cooks and food influencers will be collaborating in a masterclass extravaganza. More than 70 cooks from 50 restaurants will be producing as many as 1000 imaginative recipes during five days of Gulfood.
