Cambodia’s Milled Rice Export Up 3.5 % In Q1 Of 2023

Asia and the Pacific region both eat rice as a staple food. The Asia-Pacific region produces and consumes more than 90% of the world’s rice. The majority of the cultivated land in Cambodia is used for growing rice, which contributes 15% to the country’s agricultural value added.

Cambodia’s Rice Exports

According to a report released on 25th April by the Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF), the country exported 176,581 tons of milled rice in the first quarter of 2023, up 3.5 percent from 170,539 tons during the same period in the previous year.

During the months of January through March of this year, the export of rice brought in 126 million US dollars for the Southeast Asian nation, according to the report.

As per the report, varieties of exported milled rice included premium aromatic rice, fragrant rice, long grain white rice, parboiled rice, and organic rice.

The report also stated that China continued to be the top consumer of milled rice from Cambodia, buying 84,773 tons, or 48% of the country’s entire first-quarter export of milled rice. Rice from Cambodia had been delivered to 41 nations and regions.

Given that China is a sizable market, CRF President Chan Sokheang has set the country’s full-year milled rice export target at 750,000 tons in 2023 and 1 million tons in 2025. He recently stated, “The federation will continue to work with the Ministry of Commerce to ensure that annual milled-rice sales to China surpass 400,000 tons each year.
